Radio Program: Imam Jamil is becoming a Symbol in Pakistan of U.S. Muslims' Struggle

Jamaat al-Muslimeen's representatives had a very tight schedule in Atlanta, Georgia on August 9,2002. It began with distribution of New Trend's latest issue to 224 people at Masjid Farooq on 14th street. [The khutba was void of any content relevant to current worldwide Muslim struggle.] There was immediate blessing as one of our sisters met a new Muslimah who wanted basic information and appropriate dress for prayers. [Jamaat now has a new DA'WAH package, beautifully prepared by a sister in Augusta, Georgia. One of these was handed to the new sister along with a bag full of new clothing.]
Then a sad story: Meeting a brother from Peshawar, Pakistan who lost all his investment in a pizza shop to rip-off artists, also from Pakistan. Now he cooks and sells halal food after prayers in Atlanta.
FROM 4-6 p.m. was the RALLY in FRONT OF CNN. It was a long, thin line across the front of CNN's offices, led by Br. Kaukab. There were interesting placards and signs. The three BIG placards stated as follows:
1. WE ARE PROTESTING THE VIOLATION OF IMAM JAMIL'S BASIC RIGHTS in PRISON.
2. LET MY PEOPLE GO OR THE GOOD LORD WILL SMITE YOU.
3. FOR IMAM JAMIL: JUSTICE, NOT REVENGE
A brother from the West End masjid had brought a large print point-by-point rebuttal to all the charges and accusations against Imam Jamil.
A "White" Muslim from Alabama was a real source of inspiration as he resolutely stood in line, dressed in Pakistani clothes, looking somewhat like Sulayman Walker Lindh.
There were some non-Muslim White revolutionaries there too. One of them had a poster which was counterproductive. It was a Nat Turner poster showing Imam Jamil gagged with a U.S. flag. This kind of high rhetoric can only harm a peaceful cause like that of Imam Jamil.
THE HIGH POINT of the demonstration happened when a White onlooker, an average American with his sun shade and t-shirt, crossed the street and joined the protestors.
The LOW point was when a man wearing a "drink whiskey" shirt tried to pick a fight with the protestors. The West End brothers say that he is an FBI agent who always turns up to create trouble. He was upset that the protestors were coming out in war time and, in his words, have women in burka with them. [There were women in hijab but none in burka.]
The protestors reached THOUSANDS of PEOPLE who drove through this busy intersection as it was rush hour time and the spot was ideal: right in front of Centennial Park and across from CNN.

AFTER THE PROTEST: Br. Saied Khalifa and Br. Kaukab were interviewed by WRFG 89.3 FM radio. The Jamaat's press note on Imam Jamil has been adopted by the International Committee to Support Imam Jamil Abdullah al-Amin and was READ OUT IN ITS ENTIRETY on air before the interview. [WRFG 89.3 frequently airs JAM info plus New Trend analysis of the Islamic struggle around the world.]
The interview became possible owing to the efforts of Bilal Sunni Ali, one of the most savvy media professionals helping to reflect the alternative viewpoint about the struggle of the people of America.
During the interview, Br. Kaukab pointed out that like Palestine, Imam Jamil's struggle has attained symbolic value in the Muslim world, particularly in Pakistan's Islamic circles. He said that the uncompromising stance of Imam Jamil has helped many Pakistanis to understand the propaganda done by Voice of America. (VOA tells Pakistanis that Muslims are very happy in America and very supportive of the U.S. government. VOA cites the examples of flag wavers and bootlickers in the American Muslim circles to support its claims. Imam Jamil's suffering helps Pakistanis to understand that VOA is not to be trusted.)
Br. Kaukab talked about the new generation of African-Americans (New Africans as they should correctly be called) who have no illusions about the racism and moral bankruptcy of the American power structure. The recent beating and humiliation of a young Black man in Louisiana by two white police thugs (captured on video) is living proof that the new, disillusioned generation is correct in its understanding, he said.

Comment: Imam Jamil's case is caught in the complexity created by the Black middle class well established in Atlanta, elements of which support the government.
Also, we badly need the support of IMAM W. DEEN MUHAMMAD's supporters. We are told that Atlanta Mosque, run for long time by Plemon El-Amin as Imam, consists of well-to-do followers of Imam W. Deen Muhammad. Is there anyone who can help us contact this mosque and get support for Imam Jamil's struggle? Why are they so quiet about it?
