  • the Month of Rajab al-Asb

: On the Threshold of the Month of Rajab al-Asb
Acts of the Month of Rajab
Rajab is one of the great months, and the narrations from the pure Imams (peace be upon them) have highlighted its significance and the necessity of respecting it.
It is one of the sacred months, known as the "Asb" month because mercy and forgiveness from Allah (Glory be to Him) pour down upon the servants in abundance. The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said: "Rajab is called 'Asb' because mercy is poured into it abundantly." Imam al-Kadhim (peace be upon him) also said: "Rajab is a great month in which Allah multiplies good deeds and erases sins."
It is the month of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him). It is reported that he would fast during Rajab and say: "Rajab is my month, Sha'ban is the month of the Messenger of Allah, and Ramadan is the month of Allah, the Almighty."
Many significant events took place in this great month, including the birth of the Seal of the Prophets, Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), the birth of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) in the Holy Kaaba, and also the birth of Imam Ali al-Hadi (peace be upon him) and Imam al-Jawad (peace be upon him). Additionally, the martyrdom of Imam al-Kadhim (peace be upon him) occurred, and the Battle of Khaybar took place, in which Allah granted victory to the Muslims through the military campaign led by the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him).
    Acts of Rajab
The month of Rajab is filled with divine blessings, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) urged us to seek them, saying: "Indeed, your Lord has special moments in the course of your years, so seek them and do not turn away from them."
Reviving the Nights: It is recommended to revive some of its nights, especially the night called the "Night of Wishes" (Laylat al-Raghā’ib), which is the first Thursday night of Rajab, and also the night of the middle of Rajab and its day. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: "When it is the night of the middle of Rajab, Allah commands the keeper of the record of all creatures and the writers of deeds to say: 'Look into the records of My servants, and erase any bad deeds you find and replace them with good deeds.'"
Fasting: There is much reward for fasting during Rajab or part of it, as narrated in several traditions. Among them, Imam al-Kadhim (peace be upon him) said: "Rajab is a river in Paradise, whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Whoever fasts one day in Rajab will be given to drink from that river by Allah." He also said: "Whoever fasts a day in Rajab, the fire will be distanced from them by a journey of one year, and whoever fasts three days, Paradise will be guaranteed for them." The great reward of fasting in Rajab is evident in the words of Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him), who said to one of his companions, as Rajab was nearing its end: "O Salim, have you fasted in this great month?" He replied: "No, by the son of the Messenger of Allah." The Imam (peace be upon him) responded: "You have missed rewards whose extent only Allah knows. This is a month that Allah has honored, magnified its sanctity, and promised great rewards for those who fast in it."
Seeking Forgiveness: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said: "Rajab is the month of seeking forgiveness for my nation, so increase your acts of seeking forgiveness in it, for Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful… So say often: 'I seek forgiveness from Allah and ask Him for repentance.'"
Supplication: One of the recommended supplications in Rajab is the one taught by Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) to his companion, Muhammad ibn Zakwān, who was known as al-Sajjad. It is said that he prostrated and wept so much in prostration that he became blind. When he met Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him), he said: "May I be your sacrifice, this is Rajab, teach me a supplication that will benefit me." The Imam (peace be upon him) replied: "Write: 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Say every day in Rajab, in the morning and evening, and after your prayers: 'O He who I hope for every good, and I seek protection from His wrath in every evil...' to the end of the supplication."
The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) also said: "Allah has appointed an angel in the seventh heaven named 'The Caller.' When the month of Rajab begins, the angel calls out every night until morning: 'Blessed are those who remember Allah, blessed are the obedient.' Allah says: 'I am the companion of those who sit with Me, and I am the obedient of those who obey Me. I forgive those who ask for My forgiveness. The month is My month, the servant is My servant, and the mercy is My mercy. Whoever calls upon Me in this month, I will respond to them; whoever asks Me, I will give them; and whoever seeks guidance from Me, I will guide them. I have made this month a rope between Me and My servants, so whoever holds onto it, will come to Me.'"
Prostration: Allah loves that His servant increases their prostration in Rajab and mentions this in their supplications throughout the month: "The magnitude of the sin is great, so let Your pardon be greater," emulating the example of Imam Zayn al-Abidin (peace be upon him).
Our final prayer is: All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
